A week is a long time in politics - update on the galgos rescued from the well

Four of the galgos are doing well and are already up and about.  They certainly recognise who their carers are, Fermin and Maria Jose now have new shadows!  The brindle bitch is still in intensive care with a suspected break to the third vertebra.  The x-ray pictures have been circulated to the overseas vets who support Scooby to seek their advice as well.  She is able to stand for a few minutes but cannot walk.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the letter campaign to the Spanish authorities this week to prompt them into action concerning the fate of the 5 galgos.  More than 864 letters have been sent to Spain this week.  Letters have been sent from within Spain and from UK, Netherlands, Canada, Belguim, USA, France and Germany.   Interestingly, at least 685 Spanish people have put their names to the campaign.

The campaign met with success.  The Regional Government approached Scooby for a meeting.  Scooby also met with the Federación Española de Galgos (national galgo federation). There is consensus between all of the authorities who have been in touch with Scooby that this case has to be investigated, the perpetrators brought to justice and the dogs not handed back to their owners.  However, we don’t want a lapse in the momentum, so please keep the letters coming.

There are 250,000 galgo owners (not pet owners) in Spain. The Federación expressed an interest in working with Scooby to ensure owners take responsibility for their galgos and progress the welfare issue on a national scale.   The dialogue is in the very early stages and it remains to be seen exactly what shape any collaboration might take.
