Scooby Van

You may remember that last year we launched an appeal to buy a new van for Scooby. Thanks to several generous donations, the Scooby van appeal stands at £3864.21. The initial plan was to purchase a new, pristine, air-conditioned, long-wheel base van capable of collecting stray galgos from the streets and the countryside, as well as transporting galgos to the homefinders in northern mainland Europe. Unfortunately, our approaches to grant funding bodies and vehicle manufacturers for donations or discounts were unsuccessful.
Sadly the Scooby van died for good last autumn. So Greyhound Compassion and Scooby had to find a second-hand van as an emergency measure. Last week, Greyhound Compassion transferred 2000 Euros from the van appeal to Scooby to purchase a replacement van (pictured right) which can be used to pick up the rescued dogs from the surrounding areas. This amount equates to about £1360 and has been donated largely by a small band of fund raisers in Wales. The van is 10 years old and while it will easily be able to collect stray galgos and run errands for the shelter (for example, to pick up mammoth amounts of food and take rubbish to the dump) it will not be good enough to transport long distance to the homefinders as we'd hoped but an interim vehicle is essential. The long distance van will have to continue to be an ongoing project. In the meantime, the Dutch group has the use of a suitable vehicle to transport the dogs from Medina to Holland as they have done in the past.
